Positive Birth Movement North Birmingham
Every woman Deserves A Positive Birth
Next Meet up Date: Saturday 18th March 2017 at 10 am - 12 pm.
Theme of the month: Positive Birth.
The Positive Birth Movement is a growing global network of free to attend antenatal groups, connecting pregnant women together to share stories, expertise and positivity about childbirth. It aims to challenge the epidemic of negativity and fear that surrounds modern birth, and help change birth for the better. There are groups all over the world and over 200 in the UK.
The North Birmingham Group is based in Erdington (B23). We usually meet monthly on Saturday afternoons at my home. Occasionally we change and meet up at the park, in the holidays so older siblings can come and we can all enjoy the sun.
We spend a couple of hours enjoying the company of other women ( and occasionally partners or siblings), supporting our desires for a positive birth. There is lots of laughter and inspiration as we share stories anecdotes and there is often some cake. We loosely follow the theme of the month to start off our discussions and then we follow the flow of the group on the day.
A positive birth is defined by the Positive Birth Movement as:
'a birth in which a woman feels she has freedom of choice, access to accurate information, and that she is in control, powerful and respected. It should also be a birth that she approaches, perhaps with some trepidation, but without fear or dread, and that she then goes on to enjoy, and later remember with warmth and pride. A positive birth does not have to be ‘natural’ or ‘drug free’ – it simply has to be informed from a place of positivity as opposed to fear. The Positive Birth Movement is woman-centred and as such respects a woman’s human right to choose where and how she has her baby.’
